Gone Fishin'

I saw this fishtail hem skirt at TJ Maxx at the beginning of the fall, but at $39.99 that seemed a bit steep for a skirt for which I had no occasion in mind.  But when I found the same skirt on the clearance rack for $15, I thought I could find an occasion.  Turns out it is extremely versatile.  It can obviously be dressed up with some pumps and pearls, or I can dress it down with some rugged boots...

My Black Friday and a great link...

My husband's work schedule put a little kink in my black friday shopping plans.  I attempted one store with the kiddos in tow.  We walked in, and then we walked out.  No way could I brave the crowds with those crazies.  So my solution, drop them off with the in-laws and do some shopping out by them.

My first stop was at a fun little boutique on the Collierville square called Paisley

With some advice from my sister-in-law, I brought out some coats for an awesome coat drive they are having.  For every coat that you bring in, you get a 20 dollar gift card to the store.  I ended up only picking up one cute little top (picture coming soon), but while I was there I got to know the precious owner, Ashley.  She shared her own style blog with me and told me about a neat series that she has been doing about drug store makeup finds.  I wanted to share it with you all because I know how many of you love bargain beauty finds!

After my stop at Paisley, I made my way to Ross, and got a lot of toys and stocking stuffers.  Ross is great for stuff like that!

What about you, did you brave the Black Friday madness>

Rainy day style

It has been yucky and rainy here in Memphis. I found these cure socks at Target for $2.50 and thought they would spruce up my old rain boots. If you are at Target check them out! There are tons of colors and patterns!

Some time away...

Sorry that it has been a few days since my last post. I was able to get away on a short beach trip with some of my girlfriends. There wasn't much fashion going on since I was in my sweats for almost 3 days straight, but I did get time to paint my nails.

I chose this fun turquoise color...

You know how I feel about turquoise...

Hope to get back at it this week with some good posts.

A bit more about Elegantees..

Katie Behnke is the founder of Elegantees. She is in New York City and works in the fashion industry. Her passion for Elegantees is to grow the brand into a lucrative company and to use the dividends to fight sex trafficking. Katie's conviction is business must be used for good. When she started Elegantees in 2010, Katie was reflecting about how heart-broken she felt when she learned of sex trafficking in a class while she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology. So, Katie made a covenant that the financial success of Elegantees will be used to fight trafficking and injustice. Elegantees is a small business today, but is saving up to get closer to our first project --- To go to Nepal and set up sustainable sewing employment for women rescued from sex trafficking.

I Need Your Help!

I need your help!
I know that you all are tired of seeing my old face on this blog everyday!  I would love to get some of you to help me with some upcoming posts.  I am specifically looking for…
1.  Someone pregnant
2.  Someone transitioning after pregnancy
3.  Someone willing to go with me to a thrift store for some styling
4.  someone willing to go with me to a discount store for some styling

If you live in the Memphis area, and if you are interested in being a little “experiment” for me and willing to have your picture on my blog, send me an email (Kelly bourland at yahoo dot com) and we can talk about the details.   There will be no cost involved for you, unless you want to buy some of the clothes we find.

Reader Question: Short Tops

Here is a recent question from a reader...

“I have trouble with low rise pants. It seems my shirts are never long enough, and I'm constantly checking to see if my stomach showing. I know with a t shirt and jeans I can layer another t shirt or cami, but with work clothes it's harder. I wore a sweater set with black pants the other day and the sweater set barely skimmed the top of the pants. Any advice?”

My first advice would be to wear pants with a higher rise.  I personally HATE low-rise pants and jeans (I am extremely high-waisted, so they just don’t work on me).  I try to choose mid-rise or higher pants.  If you don’t want to invest in a bunch of new pants, I still think that it is ok to have a longer cami sticking out under your work blouses.  Maybe even one with a lacy trim on it.  You could also tuck the cami in, so that if you lift up your arms, your tummy is covered.    My second advice would be to wear longer tops.  Switch out the short bottom sweater of your set for a silk blouse or a button down that would give you more coverage.

Hope this helps!  Keep those questions coming…

Style Diary: Memphis in Memphis

Recently, I got to have a date night with my husband to see the musical Memphis.  It is a wonderful show, if you get a chance to see it, GO!  I was also excited to wear this fun Kensie tunic that I found at Ross a long time ago on clearance for $11.99.  I paired it with my black leggings and these fun new wedges I got at the Nine West outlet at the beach for $29.99.
